As someone who spends a lot of time in leggings—yes, both while working out and on the weekends when I have no intention to break a sweat at all—I've begun to develop very strong preferences for certain styles. Anyone who dons spandex pants on the reg knows how important it is for them to fit right. No one needs pants that make it hard to breathe, leave indents from too-tight seams, rub and irritate your skin in all the wrong places, or—personally my most dreaded—dig into your belly like they're clinging on for dear life.
This may sound dramatic, but I pretty much became a new woman the first time I slipped-or, more accurately, squatted and yanked and jumped-into a pair of high-waisted leggings. The waistband was suddenly not digging into my fleshiest parts, but rather, snugly hugging my actual waist around and above my belly button. They were tight like all the others, but they felt like they were slipped right into place; they were sitting comfortably in the groove they were meant to, in the curve of my body that felt right.
Since then, I've tried to exclusively wear high-waisted leggings. (That's me in the photo above, rocking a pair. I'm also wearing high-waisted jeggings at my desk right now, so clearly I'm milking this high-waist trend for all its worth.) If the waist doesn't come to at least my belly button, I'm not enticed. I want my leggings to reach my ribcage, ideally. And I want to wear them on a run, at the gym, and in the grocery store.
Not only are high-waisted leggings insanely comfortable, they wear really well during workouts (read: they don't dig into my guts and roll down into a weird lump that I have to constantly keep fixing), and they're usually the most flattering. I don't have six-pack abs, but my butt is really strong, if I do say so myself. High-waisted leggings flatter your midsection and accentuate your behind. I just feel really damn good in these pants, and I want everyone to know. I also want to feel comfy and confident, too.
